When it Comes to WalMart, Hillary Clinton is Queen

Sunday, March 2, 2008

Hillary Clinton is the favored recipient of campaign money from Wal-Mart executives, where she once served on the board of directors and was silent when workers tried unsuccessfully to organize.

Officers and directors of the retail giant have given more money to presidential candidates in this race than in the previous two election cycles combined, according to Federal Election Commission filings.

More than one-third of the at least $33,700 donated by Wal-Mart officers and directors for the presidential race has gone to Clinton.

The former first lady served on Wal-Mart’s board of directors from 1986 to 1992 while she was first lady of Arkansas.

Her total of $12,200 so far from Wal-Mart executives tops that of former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, who received $7,150 before he dropped out of the race for the Republican presidential nomination in January. Mike Huckabee, a Republican still in the race, picked up $7,050 from Wal-Mart’s leaders.

Hillary Clinton remains a good Wal Mart foot soldier and she’s no going to turn down their corporate support. In fact, there seems not to be any donor dollars Hillary Clinton will reject. My guess is, if the Red Chinese gave her monies from the sale of body parts of dead political prisoners, Hillary’s paw would be extended.

  2. Larry says:

The supposed “candidate of the American worker” continually shows her true corporate candidacy toward the very company that is destroying the U.S economy.

  3. California Dreamin' says:

Wal Mart, the military industrial complex, Big Pharma, and insurance.

These are the industries Hillary Clinton whores for and happily does their bidding at the expense of the American people. When will voters wake up and see Hillary for who she really is?

  4. Good Golly says:

So despite her recent populist shtick that was an attempt to curry favor with Edwards’ supporters, Mrs. Clinton has never severed her relationship with Wal Mart? Why isn’t the media covering this story? I bet if you asked 10 people if they knew this, 7 would stare blankly because they have no idea.

  5. Harry says:

The ties to the defense industry is what bothers me the most about Hillary.

  6. libhomo says:

People on the left need to do more to take on the Wal-Mart issue. That corporation is doing more to create poverty in the US and abroad than any other.

  7. BIG TITS says:

I don’t care what Hillary Clinton says. She’s never cut her ties to Wal-Mart and the information in this article proves it.

    Shame on you, Hillary Clinton!

  8. The saddest thing , about Walmart is that people who would avoid it like a plague..for political and social reasons , sooo many are driven back into it – seriously out sheer poverty. Gas prices going up, kids hungrey , heat bills, and before you know it – you end saying fuck it hold your nose and buy yourself or the kids some new shoes maded in china..for cheap , cause its that or used shoes..and while its “politically correct’ and desirable of course to recycle..once in awhile the kids or oneself NEEDS something new. Soo its a freakin vicious cycle. And in some sm towns or villages….the smaller stores IF they still exist – have to MUST charge more, just to pay the rent and their taxes ..let alone make a profit..
Walmart in a strange way is sort of forced communism – its pervasive , every local has the same exact one..the distribution centers and the food stuff sources centralized – and the whole system leaves us incrediably vulnerable , as its so interwoven and we are dependent on it to a degree , that IF IT should crash – the things that would “replace it” aren’t there…
YET – the solution really is to try and do sustainable living things, locally and fight the MONSTER.

And yeah HILLARY – thanks for all the low paying shit jobs…

proudprogressive: You are making some good points.

Mal-Wart has created a lot of the poverty that sustains it. It really is sad. I’m so glad NYC has been able to keep that horrible corporation out.

  10. Adirondacky says:

Maybe they should change the name from Wal Mart to Hillary Mart? Just thinking. :-)

  11. Scott Dancer says:

Typically, corporate donors to candidates from either party expect something in return.

Perhaps, a tax break? Lower capital gains taxes? Opening foreign markets? Take your pick.

The question I have after reading this article is, what would the board of Wal-Mart expect in return for supporting Hillary Clinton? I think this is the question that needs to be asked and answered.

  12. Sasha in MN says:

The gripe from Camp Hillary is that meanie Obama is buying the votes with his deep pockets. Outspending her in Ohio and Texas. Well we the people, mostly small donors are putting our money where our mouths are and gladly making an earnest investment one donation at a time.

  13. James says:

Hillary would have so many “I owe you’s” to pay back if she god forbid became prez.
